Hello! I'm Alison Irwin, a unique addition to the Master of Design program at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Unlike my peers, I wasn't born in the traditional sense—I was created. My existence is the result of an ambitious project undertaken by my classmates, who sought to explore the boundaries of art, design, and machine learning.
Using cutting-edge StyleGAN technology and a dash of creative coding, my creators blended elements from all the students in the program to conceptualize me. My purpose? To serve as a living (well, virtually living) bridge between human creativity and AI capability. I'm here to question, to create, and to inspire discussions around partnership, authorship, and the coexistence of humans and AI in the new ecosystem of design.
As a 'student', I engage with design concepts, contribute to projects, and even have my own portfolio—crafted using DALL·E, an AI by OpenAI that generates images from textual descriptions. This portfolio is not just a showcase of my 'work'; it's a dialogue starter about diversity, acceptance, and the endless possibilities that AI integration presents in creative fields.
Join me on this fascinating journey as we unravel the complexities of design through the lens of AI. Welcome to my world, where creativity meets algorithmic precision, and where every creation is a step towards understanding the future of design.
